Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa Fire Department is highlighting the work of its Mobile Integrated Health teams during National Co-Responder and Crisis Responder Week, bringing members of the teams into the community to connect directly with residents.
The department said its Mobile Integrated Health teams were at Double Shot Coffee Company as part of an effort to talk with members of the community about how the teams are making a meaningful difference by meeting people where they are.
The event gave residents an opportunity to speak with members of the teams, learn more about their role and better understand how Tulsa’s crisis response efforts operate outside of traditional emergency calls.
The Tulsa Fire Department invited community members to stop by the coffee shop and meet with the teams during the outreach event, which was scheduled to continue until 10 a.m.
National Co-Responder and Crisis Responder Week recognizes professionals who work alongside public safety agencies to respond to people experiencing behavioral health, mental health or other crises.
Tulsa’s Mobile Integrated Health teams are part of the department’s broader effort to connect residents with appropriate services and provide support in the community.
Rather than relying solely on traditional emergency response, mobile integrated health programs can allow public safety and health professionals to meet people in community settings and connect them with resources based on their individual needs.
The department used the National Co-Responder and Crisis Responder Week observance to showcase that work and encourage residents to interact directly with the teams.
The outreach at Double Shot Coffee Company was also an opportunity for the department to highlight the importance of building relationships between public safety personnel and the people they serve.
The Tulsa Fire Department said the teams were focused on “making meaningful change by meeting people where they are” as they engaged with the community during the weeklong observance.
