Tulsa, OK – Tulsa firefighters, firefighters from surrounding communities and law enforcement officers gathered for a memorial climb honoring those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
The Tulsa Fire Department said participants climbed in memory of the firefighters, law enforcement officers and civilians who went toward danger as others tried to escape the attacks.
Tulsa Firefighters Local 176 spent hours preparing for the event, ensuring the climb reflected the honor and respect owed to the victims and first responders.
The department said the climb was held in memory of the 343 FDNY firefighters who died in the attacks, as well as NYPD and Port Authority officers and other first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The event also honored the families whose lives were permanently changed by the attacks.
“Twenty-five years later, their stories still matter. Their sacrifice still matters. Their families still matter,” the department said.
The Tulsa Fire Department said the participants climbed to remember those who never came home and to ensure their sacrifices are not forgotten.
