Tulsa, OK – Firefighters from the Tulsa Fire Department participated in specialized boat training at the Tulsa Wave Park on Tuesday, joining members of Oklahoma Task Force 1 and Texas Task Force 1 for a day focused on improving water rescue capabilities.
According to the department, A Platoon boat crews from Stations 4, 5, and 29 took part in the training exercise, which was designed to strengthen critical rescue skills in moving water environments. Members of Texas Task Force 1 traveled from El Paso and Bryant, Texas, to participate alongside Tulsa firefighters and Oklahoma Task Force 1 personnel.
Officials said the training provided responders with hands-on experience in challenging water conditions, helping prepare them for real-world emergency situations involving swift water rescues and other water-related incidents.
The exercise was led by Oklahoma Task Force 1 Rescue Coordinator Captain Matt Bell, Oklahoma Task Force 1 member Lieutenant Ryan Stephens, and Grand River Dam Authority Lieutenant Paul Mader. The instructors shared their expertise and guided participants through a variety of training scenarios aimed at enhancing rescue techniques and coordination.
The Tulsa Fire Department said training opportunities in dynamic water environments are essential for maintaining readiness and ensuring firefighters can respond effectively when emergencies occur.
Department officials also expressed appreciation to the River Parks Authority for providing access to the Tulsa Wave Park, noting that the facility offers a valuable setting for realistic water rescue training.
The joint exercise highlighted ongoing cooperation between local, state, and regional emergency response teams as they work to improve preparedness and strengthen lifesaving capabilities.
