Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa Fire Department gathered at Station 6 on Friday to celebrate the career of Firefighter Abren Williams, who is set to officially retire on May 31 after more than 25 years of service to the citizens of Tulsa.
Williams began his career with the department on April 1, 2001, and spent more than two decades serving in a variety of assignments throughout the city. During his career, he served on Ladder 32 C Platoon, Engine 14 C Platoon, Ladder 4 C Platoon, Ladder 20 B Platoon, the HazMat Pool, and HazMat A Platoon.
According to the Tulsa Fire Department, Williams became known among coworkers for his positive attitude, friendly personality, and ability to connect with both fellow firefighters and members of the community. Colleagues said he never met a stranger and built lasting friendships throughout his career.
Firefighters who worked alongside Williams described him as compassionate, hardworking, and dedicated to public service. Whether responding to emergencies, serving as a hazardous materials technician, or spending time at the station, he was recognized for his professionalism and commitment to helping others.
Coworkers also reflected on Williams’ determination to reach his retirement milestone. Despite facing injuries, setbacks, and other challenges during his career, he remained focused on achieving 25 years of service and earned the respect of those around him for his perseverance.
The department said Williams left a lasting impact on the firefighters and citizens he served throughout his career.
As he prepares to begin retirement, the Tulsa Fire Department thanked Williams for his years of service, friendship, and dedication to the community and wished him and his family the best in the years ahead.
