Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa Police Department is warning drivers after a massive object weighing between 1 and 2 tons fell from a vehicle while traveling over a bridge on Highway 11 at Pine earlier in the day.
Police said the object fell onto the roadway, creating a potentially serious hazard for anyone traveling through the area.
Fortunately, no vehicles were passing underneath when the object fell, according to the department. The incident therefore did not result in the kind of collision or injuries that could have occurred if another vehicle had been directly beneath the falling object.
The owner of the object later returned to the area and repossessed it.
Authorities are currently evaluating the area where the object fell to determine whether any damage occurred.
The Tulsa Police Department shared the incident as a highway hazard warning while also taking a lighthearted approach to the unusual situation, asking the public to identify the object.
“Can you name the object that fell? Wrong answers only,” the department wrote.
Police did not identify the object in the post, but emphasized the potential danger created when such a heavy item falls from a vehicle on a bridge.
The incident serves as a reminder of the risks posed by unsecured or improperly transported loads, particularly on bridges and other busy roadways where drivers may have little opportunity to avoid falling debris.
Authorities are continuing to evaluate the location for any damage resulting from the object hitting the area.
