Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa Fire Department recently participated in a groundbreaking initiative to improve trauma care in the field. In collaboration with Our Blood Institute, the department’s EMS Supervisor Academy visited a Tulsa facility to learn about the Type O whole blood program, designed to equip first responders with critical resources for trauma patients.
This program allows first responders to administer whole blood during the “golden hour” after injury, significantly improving the chances of survival for those in need. The department’s three EMS supervisors, one for each shift, are trained in this vital process.
As part of their training, paramedics are taught how to properly pick up weekly blood supplies, ensuring that Tulsa Fire Department is always prepared to save lives on scene.
The program, which relies heavily on community support, is vital for providing immediate access to whole blood in emergencies. Tulsa Fire Department encourages the public to donate blood at Our Blood Institute to continue this life-saving work.
